Alluri Soumya’s PIL against SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’
A PIL is a legal complaint filed by any member of the public against an administrative or judicial action. It is often used to protect the rights of individuals or groups of people who have been injured by a violation of their legal rights.
In the case of SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’, a PIL was filed in the Telangana high court against the film before it was released. The petition was filed by a lady named Alluri Soumya of Satyavarapu Undrajavaram in West Godavari district, who alleged that the film intentionally distorts the history of legendary freedom fighters Alluri Sita Ramaraju and Komaram Bheem, thereby hurting their reputation. She also demanded that the film should not be given a censor certificate and should be stayed until the case is resolved.
The petition was heard by a two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court, which included Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavali on March 15. It was argued by Soumya that the film distorts historical facts. Moreover, she claimed that it destroyed the reputation of the heroes and hurt their followers’ sentiments.
As per the court’s ruling, a stay order was not sought against the film. However, a censor certificate was issued to the movie.
Another petition was also filed against the film, which claimed that it distorted historical facts. The National President of Alluri Sita Rama Raju Youth Association, Veerabhadra Rao, said that the filmmakers altered facts for their own commercial gain. He referred to the article by historian Robert Tombs in The Spectator, which called the film an exaggerated version of how imperialism was practiced in India during the British rule.
Apart from Soumya, other protests against RRR have been made by people who questioned the movie’s depiction of Alluri Sita Ramaraju and Kambaram Bheem. This has led to the upcoming release being postponed several times.
SS Rajamouli has repeatedly said that the film is not based on a true story and is simply a fictitious tale. Nevertheless, the film will be released on 25 March.
It is not uncommon for a film to face legal challenges prior to its release, particularly when it comes to historical accuracy or depiction of sensitive issues. While fans will have to wait and see how the courts decide, it is worth keeping an eye on the case.
The movie will be directed by SS Rajamouli and features actors Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt, and Ajay Devgn. It is bankrolled by DVV Danayya and will hit theaters on 25 March.
In the film, Alluri Sita Ramaraju and Komaram Bheem are portrayed as patriots who fought against the British empire. It also portrays them as a couple. This has raised many concerns among the audiences.
The film has a large star cast, including actor Ram Charan, who plays the lead role of Alluri Sita Ramaraju. Meanwhile, actor Jr NTR is playing the role of Komaram Bheem. The other cast members include Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Samuthirakani, Shriya Saran, and Ray Stevenson.
The case was heard by Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Venkateswara Reddy
The Telangana High Court has heard a public interest litigation (PIL) against SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’. The petitioner Alluri Soumya alleged that the film is intentionally distorting the historical facts of two legends – Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sita Ramaraju in a bid to hurt their sentiments and tarnish their image.
Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Venkateswara Reddy of the HC were asked to hear the matter. They questioned the petitioner about the material facts that were involved and said they will consider them. They have also sought information about the affidavit submitted by the petitioner.
Damodar Reddy, a lawyer representing the petitioner in the case told the court that they had filed an affidavit before the HC. The affidavit had stated that the police did not follow the legal procedure while arresting Arnesh Kumar Singh, a BJP MLA. The affidavit said that the police did not serve the Sec 41A CrPC notice to Singh before his arrest, which was illegal. It further alleged that many irregularities took place in the case.
Reddy urged the court to make a note of this matter and take action against the businesses that were responsible for the pollution that was taking place in the city. He said that the government should take a strong stand against these companies and should make sure that they do not continue to discharge their air pollution or liquid effluents into the environment.
He alleged that the police have not maintained law and order rules in the city, which is contrary to the Supreme Court’s rulings. He further argued that the apex court had clearly mentioned in its judgment that Section 41A CrPC notices must be served to the accused and arrest made after receiving them. He added that the arrest was carried out without following legal procedures and that the incident occurred in a sensitive area.
The court said that the case would be taken up again and asked for a date to discuss it. They also referred to the affidavit and directed the parties to attend an interaction in their chambers.
In the meantime, the Telangana State Government has informed the High Court that it would be reducing ticket prices by 50 percent in Andhra Pradesh for the first ten days of the release of the film. This is a move that will benefit the telugu people and will increase the chances of more and more people seeing the movie.
According to reports, the Telangana Government is planning to release the film on March 25th. The film is a fictional story about two Indian freedom fighters and will focus on their battle against the British Empire. The film will feature Ram Charan, Jr. NTR, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn as lead actors.
After the film was delayed due to the Omicron cases, it will now be released on March 25th. The film has already earned a record amount of Rs 400 crore in pre-release business and is expected to break the record set by Baahubali 2.
